1905: Roof

The roof had Welsh slates, with terracotta decorations.

The original ridge was of the common design:

ridge tile

The hip ridges were plain red ridge tiles:

The bay finial was a leaf design:

finial ridge tile for finial

The design of the ridge finial is not certain. Only three houses still have a ridge finial. Two, with largely unrestored roofs, have a pegged tile as shown above, but with the finials missing. The third has a single piece finial with a scroll design. It is suspected that this is a replacement and that the original may have been the same leaf design as on the bay ridge.
