It is likely that all the houses were built with a wooden fence at the front; some old posts survive. They have a Gothic-style top, and three slots for arris rails. The vertical boards may have had a wooden capping. No old pictures of the houses have been found and so this cannot be confirmed.
Most houses had a path of the same pattern of black and white geometric tiles.
